![]() Madge starts out completely within the color concept as the rest of the characters. | ![]() This is the dress Madge's mother made her. It was made with pink chiffon and grey chiffon on top. The ideas was that when she spun and danced with Hal, the brighter pink would flare up underneath the grey. | ![]() This dress has even brighter pops of reds and pinks. |
![]() This dress is meant to have a more mature, deeper color palette. | ![]() This is supposed to represent Madge's final decision to leave home and find Hal. |
The set designer, lighter designer and I made sure to display the soft, warm pallet found in many small, rural Kansas towns in the summer. I strive to capture the calm content most of the characters found in this world through carefully selected period pieces from our stick and a few choice purchases. The directer wanted to visually amplify Madge's character arch through her costumes, and so each dress she wears has a slight color and pattern shift. She starts the play in a soft cream house dress, and ends in a stricking red travel suit.
