The Impossible Adventures of Supernova Jones begins as a tongue-in-cheek homage to old pulp sci-fi, and slowly reveals the true nature of it's story. Jones is off on a journey of exploration to the center of the universe when strange flashbacks reveal a past he has struggled to bury under his adventures. Eventually, his space facade is broken, and Jones is forced to come to terms with his tragedy, or turn away from reality forever. We had such a blast creating a world inspired by 1950'-60's sci-fi. I wanted to make the sci-fi version of the Jones family be a fun and bubbly as possible, as a juxtaposition to the tragedy they had gone through. There were also flashback to the "real" Jones family, and their color concepts and shapes echoed the "space" versions. I wanted all of the characters in this world, including the villains, to feel as TV-like,as contrived, as safe as possible, for Jones becuase this was a desperate escape from his own reality.
